Iberdrola's Eastern Green Link I project in the UK awards the first contracts worth 1.8 billion pounds sterling

Iberdrola, through its UK distribution subsidiary ScottishPower Energy Networks, is making progress in the execution of what will be the first high-capacity cable project on the east coast of the country, linking England and Scotland.
Eastern Green Link 1 (EGL1), a joint venture between ScottishPower Energy Networks and National Grid Electricity Transmission, has awarded the first contracts worth £1.8 billion (around ¤2.1 billion) to Prysmian Group, which will supply almost 400 km of power cable, and GE Vernova and MYTILINEOS Energy & Metals, which will provide two HVDC substations, one at each end of the cable.
These awards mark an important milestone for the project, with the design phase starting in 2024 and construction in 2025. This 190-kilometre electricity superhighway is valued at £2.5 billion and will carry enough green power to supply more than two million homes across the UK.
