Indra agrees with Ireland's NTA to become a solid ticketing partner for the national public transport system
Indra will manage one of the most important ticketing projects worldwide, which covers the entire public transport network in Ireland with a model based on passenger accounts.
The National Transport Authority (NTA) has chosen Indra as its strategic partner to provide this service and work together for 10 years, a period that can be extended for a further 10 years, after signing a framework agreement and awarding a contract worth hundreds of millions of euros. The company has won this project after a long bidding process carried out by the NTA.
As part of the solution, Indra will implement a multimodal backend system to facilitate the integration of multiple transport operators; it will implement and operate the sales channels, both virtual and face-to-face, including the retail network for the sale of transport tickets, with a design adapted to all public transport users. In addition, Indra will be in charge of the financial management of the collection and collection process, will equip the entire network with state-of-the-art sales, validation and control equipment, and will carry out the maintenance, logistics and operation of the entire system.
Indra's project will incorporate cutting-edge technologies, such as the use of bank cards, mobile phones or smartwatches (EMV) as a means of accessing transport, which increases the passenger's agility and convenience. In this regard, Indra is working with the NTA to agree on the deadline for the implementation of the new system. In addition, thanks to the management through traveller accounts (Account Based Ticketing-ABT), a much more advanced and efficient model, the application of the best fare for the user and discounts based on their profile or group to which they belong is guaranteed.
Raúl Ripio, Indra's Mobility&Technology general manager, described this contract as a "great success" as it "reinforces Indra's position as one of the three or four companies in the world with the management and technological capacity to develop a project of this ambition and complexity in the most technological country in Europe at present, which will be a reference for many other projects and countries due to the innovative management model it proposes".
Bernard Higgins, NTA's Director of Transport Technology, congratulated Indra on its achievement and said, "The award of this contract to Indra represents a significant milestone for the NTA and for transport users in Ireland. We look forward to working with the company over the coming years to design and implement a modern, flexible, integrated and future-proof ticketing solution to meet the needs of our customers across the country".
