Indra has been awarded a contract with Vietnam's air navigation service provider, VATM (Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation), to renew a large part of the country's air traffic management systems. Based in Ho Chi Minh City's control centre, Indra will implement its ManagAir automation solution, one of the most advanced and widely used in control centres and airports worldwide.

Indra's system will bring together in a single centralised suite all the air traffic management (ATM) processes involved in the phases of flight and will equip it with en route services, approach and control tower management systems. With the replacement of the systems, Vietnam will be able to increase air traffic control efficiency and contribute to more sustainable and efficient aviation.

Indra will make use of cutting-edge technologies that will allow it to apply new levels of cybersecurity with the aim of guaranteeing maximum protection in all operations. It has also equipped the centre with a synchronised backup system that will share all information in real time.

Indra's technology will enable Vietnam to optimise all the resources of its air traffic operations, not only by improving efficiency in the use of airspace capacity and reducing flight times, but also by minimising environmental impact. The ManagAir solution will facilitate 4D trajectory management, which allows for more precise and efficient route calculation, thereby reducing fuel consumption and, therefore, CO2 emissions.

‘With this project to modernise Vietnam's air traffic management systems, Indra continues with its objective of positioning itself as a key operator in the field of air navigation in the Asia-Pacific region, as envisaged in the Leading the Future Strategic Plan. This contract demonstrates that our flexible, safe and highly secure automation solution is one of the best options for managing the skies around the world,’ said Javier Ruano, CEO of Indra's ATM division.

Also in Asia-Pacific, Indra has deployed its automation systems in three of the four control centres in which India's airspace is divided, one of the most densely trafficked skies in Asia. It has also implemented these systems with the latest technology in reference airspaces such as Chengdu in China and Incheon in South Korea, among others.

Globally, Indra has equipped more than 11,000 air traffic facilities worldwide and is one of the few companies in the world with a portfolio of next-generation solutions capable of managing a flight door-to-door, from take-off to arrival at its destination. The company helps ensure the safety of 85% of passengers who take a flight every day, anywhere in the world, because its technology is behind those journeys at some point, making it one of the world leaders in the industry.
