Commitment to Castile and León

The plan envisages an investment of €40 million and a 50% increase in the workforce to 1,350 employees by 2027, thanks to the creation of new production plants in Valladolid and León, the strengthening of activity in Salamanca, and close collaboration with the entire business community, universities and research centres.

The meeting, held in Valladolid, was also attended by the Regional Minister for Industry, Trade and Employment, Leticia García Sánchez; the Deputy Regional Minister for Economy and Competitiveness, Carlos Martín Tobalina; and the Mayor of Valladolid, Jesús Julio Carnero.

Institutional support

The President of the Regional Government of Castile and León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, has assured that the regional executive will support the Expansion Plan as Indra's Priority Industrial Project in the region.

For the time being, the Regional Government will make an industrial warehouse available to Indra Group for the new drone factory in the Villadangos del Páramo industrial estate; and will support the two new centres that the company will promote in Valladolid, one for security and the other for engine manufacturing; as well as the reinforcement of the Salamanca Centre, which will mean the creation of 10% more jobs, among other actions.

For his part, the president of Indra Group, Ángel Escribano, highlighted ‘the unique opportunity we have before us to turn our country into one of the major players in defence in Europe and, in this scenario, Castile and León will be a leading player’.

José Vicente de los Mozos, CEO of Indra, added that ‘the knowledge, talent and technological capabilities that exist in Castile and León have allowed us to take this new step and consolidate our position in the region’.

Strategic priorities

Indra's expansion plan sets out various strategic priorities, the first of which focuses on the creation of a new drone production centre in León, where advanced unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems will be manufactured, including the TARSIS family, the VALERO multipurpose vehicle and loitering munitions. This plant will provide employment for 200 people when it is fully operational and will be located in the town of Villadangos de Páramo (León).

Indra Group will also renovate the current Centre of Excellence located in the capital of León, where engineering capabilities will be increased with expansion into key areas such as cyber defence, simulation, command and control and intelligence (C2I), software development, communications, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), counter-drone systems (C-UAS), weapons and ammunition, and air traffic systems.

In Valladolid, Indra Group will create a new engineering centre specialising in mechanical and electrical design, and will strengthen the engineering capabilities of Minsait and the Space division. It will also launch a new UAV engine manufacturing centre, a strategic investment that will reinforce Indra's leadership in advanced aerospace technologies.

At the same time, the company will boost its activity in Salamanca, where the workforce is expected to grow by around 10%.

Fire protection

Indra Group is also working with the Regional Government of Castile and León to develop use cases related to emergency management and firefighting with its IndraMind intelligence platform. With this AI, Indra Group ensures sovereignty and control over a key technology for the comprehensive protection of citizens, territories, infrastructure and critical assets, both physical and digital.

In this regard, the company will strengthen its collaboration with universities and training centres in the region, with the aim of making the most of all the local talent available, offering young professionals the opportunity to develop their careers in the high-tech sector and facilitating the return of specialised professionals.

Commitment to SMEs and start-ups

The expansion plan includes as a key axis the strengthening of the entire regional ecosystem of start-ups, SMEs and technology spin-offs. To this end, the company is leveraging its Indraventures collaborative investment and innovation platform. The aim of the initiative is to build a solid network of local partners with whom to carry out its operations, incorporating them into its value chain to gain production capacity, agility and specialisation.

All these actions reaffirm the Indra Group's commitment to innovation and economic development in Castile and León, contributing to the creation of opportunities and the strengthening of economic activity.

The plan is also aligned with the company's Leading the Future strategic plan, in which Indra Group assumes a leading and coordinating role in the Spanish business and innovation fabric to boost its capabilities and international projection.
