Indra receives the IBTTA Toll Excellence Award

I-66 Highway Washington DC United States Indra
For its innovative toll technology on Washington's I-66 motorway in the US

Indra has been awarded the prestigious IBTTA Toll Excellence Award by the International Toll Industry Association in the category of ‘Innovation in the private sector’.

This award highlights the innovative non-intrusive free-flow tolling solution, creating one of the most advanced highways in the United States, the I-66 Outside the Beltway, in the state of Virginia.

The award was given to Indra because this system has significantly improved traffic flow and sets a precedent for future advances in tolling technology, making it an exemplary project in the industry.

The I-66 has one of the most advanced solutions available in the market, thanks to the free-flow overhead tolling system developed by Indra, which eliminates the need for physical barriers and intrusive systems on the asphalt, and includes automatic detection of High Occupancy Vehicles (HOV), LiDAR and connected vehicle technology.

In addition, it provides a scalable and highly flexible tolling solution that allows customers to easily adapt to changes in business rules or vehicle classification.

With a solid and growing presence in the mobility market in the United States, Indra will also implement its free-flow dynamic tolling system (Managed Lanes), which integrates 3D LiDAR technology and Artificial Intelligence, in the express lanes of the I-485 highway, one of the main roads in Charlotte, North Carolina. In addition, it has also installed the automatic detection system for High Occupancy Vehicles in the express lanes of the I-95, I-495 and I-395 highways in northern Virginia.

‘At Indra, we have been working for years in the United States on mobility projects in which we have applied the most advanced technologies, such as our connected car platform or our dynamic free-flow tolling systems for Managed Lanes. This award recognises the impact of our technology on mobility and on improving safety, operational efficiency and sustainability,’ said Raúl Ripio, general manager of Mobility & Technology at Indra.

In addition to its success in the United States, Indra has outstanding references in the development and implementation of smart technology for traffic management and public transport in countries such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, the Philippines, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Portugal and Spain.
