Investment in northern Morocco on the rise

During the first half of the year, the Moroccan region of Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima has experienced a sharp increase in investments. According to data collected by L'Economiste, the Unified Regional Investment Commission (CRUI) held 108 meetings in the first six months of 2023 in which up to 416 projects were approved, i.e. 62% of the plans submitted in that period. These projects represent an increase of 86.5% compared to the six months of the previous year.
Furthermore, the plans approved for 2023 are worth 23.7 billion dirhams and are expected to create around 70,000 new stable jobs in the long term. According to the CRUI, the northern Moroccan region "is positioning itself as a privileged investment destination, with a favourable business environment and promising prospects for the future".
Investment plans are mainly dedicated to the industrial sector, with projects valued at Dh5.38 billion, representing 38 per cent of the total and expected to create more than 26,000 jobs in the long term. This is followed by tourism, with 4.46 billion dirhams and the capacity to generate more than 14,000 jobs, the services sector (2.4 billion dirhams) and construction (1.2 billion dirhams). These last two together should generate 10,000 jobs. On the other hand, trade represents 6% of the approved projects with an investment of 7 billion dirhams and is expected to create more than 7,100 new jobs.
