Land survey work begins for the Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline

The company Etafat has announced the start of land survey activities for the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project after the inaugural meeting held in Rabat with the National Office of Hydrocarbons and Minerals and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). 

As reported by Rue20, the first topographical surveys were initiated in the northern part, covering Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal. 

The start of this work was officially confirmed by the Nigerian government's Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ekperekpe Ekpo, during a meeting with a Moroccan delegation led by the Moroccan ambassador to Nigeria, Moha O Ali.   

According to Nigerian media, the Moroccan delegation and the minister discussed bilateral cooperation and joint commitment to the implementation of the transatlantic pipeline project, as well as the development of a fertiliser plant in Nigeria. 

Following the start of onshore exploration activities, construction is expected to begin soon on the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline, a project that aims to connect the European market by 2024. 

Four memoranda of understanding related to the Nigeria-Morocco pipeline were signed in June last year to ensure the progress and strategic direction of the 25 billion dollar project.
