More than 7 million tourists traveled to Morocco during the first half of 2024
Recent data published by the Moroccan Ministry of Tourism shows that 7.4 million people traveled to the country during the first six months of 2024. This figure reflects an increase of 14% compared to the same time last year.
“Moroccan tourism continues its upward trajectory, as demonstrated by the exceptional growth in the first half of 2024,” the ministry highlighted, indicating that this year's record also represents a spectacular increase of 38% compared to 2019.
The Moroccan authorities consider that this achievement has exceeded all expectations, so they hope that the arrival of tourists will continue with the goal of attracting more than 15 million by the end of the year. In fact, according to the Ministry's forecasts, it is likely that Morocco could exceed this figure.
At the moment, the month of June has already registered a record arrival of 1.5 million tourists, indicating an increase of 10% compared to 2023.
In this sense, the Minister of Tourism, Fatima Zahra Ammor, stated that Morocco's influence on the international tourism scene is undeniable.
“The Kingdom's unique assets combined with the implementation of the tourism roadmap are paying off,” Ammor added in a ministry press release.
Looking to the future, Morocco aims to attract more than 17.5 million tourists between now and 2026. Regarding this goal, the minister assured that the goal is “closer than ever.”
Separately, last month, Ammor noted that foreign currency travel revenue reached $3.2 billion at the end of April.
“We will continue to enrich our offer, in particular by diversifying entertainment activities, to reach our goal of 120 billion dirhams (12 billion dollars) in 2026,” explained the head of Tourism, describing the sector as a crucial pillar of the economy country.
