The Association of Importers of Motor Vehicles in Morocco (AIVAM) has made a report that new car sales in the Kingdom have amounted to 143,900 in just the last ten months. The AIVAM has assured that this is a very significant growth in the automotive world, as it is a growth of 10.10% more than at the end of October 2019.

In this new report, three segments can be taken into account to calculate the increase in the number of cars. Firstly, passenger cars, which are among the cars that have sold the most with a result of 126,189 units, which is 8.58%. The public's favourite brand is Dacia, with a market share of 28.31% and more than 37,000 new registrations since the beginning of this year. The second best-selling brand is Renault, with 16,637 units and a market share of 13.18%. Hyundai and Peugeot are the next brands at the top of this list with the former with 10,446 new vehicles and a market share of 8.28% and the latter with 9,013 new vehicles registered and a market share of 7.14%.

The second segment is light commercial vehicles (LCVs); 17,778 new vehicles were sold, representing a growth of 22.86% of this increase. The main brand of choice for LVC consumers is Dongfeng Sokon (DFSK), which has managed to sell 3,556 units and has increased its sales by 161.28%, which is a big growth for the Chinese brand. A fairly new brand from India, Mahindra, saw its sales increase to 500% of its own capacity, with 108 units on the streets of Morocco. As for Dacia and Renault, which apart from passenger cars have a LVC section, they registered 1,824 and 2,540 cars sold, respectively.

The third segment, made up of premium cars, has also been affected by this increase. The brand that has sold the most examples of its machines is Audi, with 3,108 units on the streets and a market share of 2.46%. Audi is ahead of BMW and Mercedes, which have managed to sell 2,715 and 2,061 units each. It is worth noting that Porsche continues to increase its sales by 90.4%, resulting in the sale of 238 vehicles and that Jaguar had a drop of 50.61%, only managing to sell 122.

The Kingdom continues to receive good news in economic terms, boosted by the change of government in recent months. In addition, the automotive sector data is very good considering the pandemic period that has caused all world economies to enter recession and in which many sectors, such as the automotive sector in this case, have seen their sales reduced.
