Morocco's textile industry continues to reap international success. Despite the current difficult world situation, where prices are on the rise, the Alawi kingdom continues to be an important market for the European Union (EU). For several years now, the Maghreb country has been among the top ten nations that export mainly clothing and garments to Europe, which makes this industry a very interesting and attractive market to exploit.

Specifically, Morocco is in eighth place among the main exporters of textile products to the Old Continent, according to data published by the Euro-Mediterranean Circle of Textile Clothing Leaders (Cedith). According to this organisation, the textile market has experienced a notable growth compared to other years. Cedith states that textile exports to Europe have increased by 31% during the first quarter of the year.

The data confirms that, on a yearly basis, Morocco has reached the figure of 707 million euros in this sector alone, reaffirming the importance of the textile industry in the country. The statistics have lifted the Kingdom to increase its market share to 3.3%, up from 3.2% last year.

In addition, it is worth noting that Morocco is the second largest Mediterranean supplier of clothing to the EU. It is only ahead of Turkey, which is the largest Mediterranean industry in this sector and has reaped this first quarter an increase of 27% more and 2,800 million euros obtained in shipments. Behind the North African country, Tunisia is in third place, with an increase of 21.7% and a revenue of 572 million euros.

Despite being in second place among the Mediterranean countries that stand out in this market, Morocco is the country that has experienced the greatest growth compared to its rivals. Of the three mentioned, it is the country that has traded the most with the EU compared to last year, and this is reflected in the figures achieved.

Morocco's garment industry is one of the mainstays of the national economy. Given the large number of exports generated, the country is able to earn foreign currency for the government, and this makes it one of the sectors that produces the most jobs in the country.

Thanks to the reforms introduced by the different executives, this sector has been able to experience a significant improvement in all respects. Initially, the textile industry was based on the export of raw materials such as cotton. But the government enabled its reform and several measures were introduced that have given it its great importance at a global and national level.

These include the creation of hundreds of thousands of new jobs and an increase in exports and domestic sales. A number of companies have also been established to lead the rest and take charge of growing the sector, as well as different specialisations within the sector.

As mentioned above, Morocco has one of the best industries in the Euro-Mediterranean area, which is taken advantage of by many countries that see the opportunity to trade with the Kingdom. Moreover, thanks to its great importance and its weight in the economy, it is a sector that promotes and generates investment, which has attracted many international companies. The stability and tax advantages offered by the Alawi country to open business has allowed them to expand in different markets that trade with the country. In 2019 alone, the EU accounted for more than 70% of its exports to the world.

Over the years, it has become one of the Kingdom's most important sectors and has generated more than 24% of foreign sales. In 2017, Morocco achieved a significant economic growth of 4.1% from this industry alone and its exports increased by 9.4%. This led to national GDP growth of 3.1%.
