Morocco boosts tourist destinations of Agadir, Marrakech and Rabat
Morocco continues to invest heavily in tourism, one of the North African country's main sources of income. In addition to the many initiatives aimed at improving the national tourist offer, the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) has now proposed to promote the destinations of Agadir, Marrakech and Rabat.
These three attractive Moroccan enclaves will have a greater influx of visitors thanks to the agreement reached between the ONMT and the airline EasyJet, which will increase the service by 94,346 additional seats to Agadir, Marrakech and Rabat for the post-summer and winter tourist market.
The ONMT is thus continuing its strategy of strengthening air transport and increasing the tourist attractiveness of the Moroccan kingdom, which already enjoys a high profile among the millions of tourists looking for holiday destinations.
Morocco has long been implementing the 'Land of Light' campaign, with which the Moroccan state has further boosted tourism by boosting the industry with a powerful promotional campaign that has reached the whole world. This also includes the air transport sector, which is essential to connect the country with other destinations and to encourage the arrival of travellers from all over the world.
With these nearly 95,000 new seats, direct flights will link several European cities with the destinations of Agadir, Marrakech and Casablanca.
According to Adel El Fakir, Director General of the ONMT: "This record agreement with one of the largest airlines in Europe strengthens our strategy to promote our destination in the world. Other agreements with other companies are also in the pipeline", as reported by La Vie Eco.
Rabat will be connected to five European cities: Paris, with four weekly frequencies, or 15,345 seats; Geneva, with two weekly frequencies, or 8,593 seats; Lyon, with three frequencies, or 10,679 seats; and Nantes and Nice, with two weekly frequencies, or 7,550 seats each.
Marrakech will be linked to Bristol with two frequencies a week, or 8,712 seats, and to Porto with three frequencies a week, or 12,078 seats.
Agadir will be served by a new Agadir-Porto route with two frequencies a week, or 7,920 seats, and will be served by the Paris-Agadir route with two frequencies a week, or 7,326 seats.
In total, 94,346 additional seats will be generated for the winter season alone, distributed between Rabat (58,310), Marrakech (20,790) and Agadir (15,246).
EasyJet, Europe's second largest airline in terms of passengers carried, is a long-standing partner of the ONMT. With nearly one million tourist seats annually operated in the Moroccan kingdom, the airline currently ranks fifth in terms of international capacity to the North African country.
Four million tourists visited Morocco during the first four months of 2023, 13% more than in 2019, Tourism Minister Fatima Zahra Ammor explained recently in Rabat.
Ammor explained before the House of Representatives that tourism revenues at the end of March 2023 reached 25 billion dirhams (MMDH), up 51% compared to 2019, demonstrating the high relevance of the Moroccan tourism sector.
70% of tourists come from the European market, as for the most sought-after destinations, 60% of tourists show preference for the cities of Marrakech and Agadir, as the minister pointed out. Rabat is also an attractive destination.
Rabat is Morocco's capital and the country's main administrative and political centre, as well as the fourth imperial city. It is a curious blend of the historical tradition of the past and modernity established in the present. It has great tourist attractions such as the Hassan Tower, the Kasbah of the Udayas, the Mohammed V Mausoleum, its important Medina or the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art.
Agadir also has a great tourist offer based on its imposing beaches or charming places such as Agadir Oufella or the Souk el Had market.
Meanwhile, Marrakech offers the great cultural reference of Jemaa El Fna, the Majorelle Garden or the Menara Gardens, the Bahia Palace, the El Badi Palace or the Mamounia Palace, the Marrakech Museum or the Dar Si Said Museum.
Great attractions that are very attractive for tourists from all over the world who have more and more connections to reach these important Moroccan tourist destinations.
