Global leaders in plant nutrition and green energy, OCP Group and Fortescue Energy, have announced the creation of an innovative joint venture (JV) in Morocco to develop and supply hydrogen, ammonia and green fertilizers.

This strategic partnership, announced through a press release, marks a significant step towards decarbonization efforts and positions Morocco as a green energy powerhouse. The joint brand, established as an equal collaboration, aims to revolutionize the way we feed our planet.

Leveraging renewable resources and cutting-edge technology, both partners plan to produce green hydrogen – a clean-burning fuel with zero carbon emissions – along with green ammonia and customized fertilizers.

“Our strategic partnership with Fortescue is a sign of our joint commitment to decarbonization,” said Mustafa Terrab, President and CEO of OCP Group, as reported by Morocco World News. "This is a key step in realizing our vision of simultaneously ensuring global food security and combating climate change," he added.

This joint initiative goes beyond simply providing clean energy. The created brand also encompasses the potential development of manufacturing facilities and a dedicated R&D center in Morocco.

This center, strategically located near the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) near Marrakech, will focus on advancing research in renewable energy, green hydrogen and mineral processing.

Additionally, collaboration extends beyond traditional partnerships. OCP and Fortescue venture capital funds will work together to drive investment in crucial technological advances in the green energy sector.

This ensures the joint partnership remains at the forefront of innovation and helps accelerate the global clean energy transition.

On the other hand, this project aligns with Morocco's potential as a leader in green energy. The Kingdom has abundant wind and solar resources, extensive coastlines and proximity to Europe and America, making it an ideal location for the production and distribution of renewable energy.

In this sense, Andrew Forrest, CEO and founder of Fortescue, highlighted the project's potential to transform Morocco into a global green energy center. “Together, Fortescue and OCP will build a leading and globally competitive platform to accompany Morocco's path towards an industrial, manufacturing and green energy production power,” he stressed.

This initiative will also generate important economic benefits for Morocco. “This brand has the potential to supply not only a large domestic market for green products, but also other countries and continents,” said Mark Hutchinson, CEO of Fortescue Energy. Hutchinson also assured that this initiative will create “thousands of jobs and industries in Morocco.”
