Rheinmetall and Indra announce strategic agreement on armoured vehicles

Rheinmetall Landsysteme GmbH, a subsidiary of Rheinmetall AG, and Indra have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish strategic cooperation in the field of armoured vehicle projects for the Spanish Armed Forces.
This agreement further strengthens the solid alliance that Indra and Rheinmetall already have in other areas, such as the recently announced agreement with Rheinmetall Electronics on the Leopard 2E combat system.
Rheinmetall is one of the world's leading suppliers of tracked and wheeled armoured vehicles and is the original designer of the KEILER NG armoured breaching vehicle, among other vehicles. In addition, Rheinmetall has a significant technological stake in the Leopard 2A4 tank. It also has extensive knowledge and experience in areas such as the design, manufacture and support of armoured vehicles. With REM S.A.U., Rheinmetall already has a strong and important presence in Spain.
Indra is a leading Spanish defence systems company and designer of thermal cameras, as well as the manufacturer of the Leopard 2E combat system in Spain under licence from Rheinmetall Electronics. It is also the supplier of the Lince BMS system, currently in service on the Leopard 2 in Spain.
Indra is also the designer of the MAESTRE mission system, currently contracted for the Army's VCR 8x8, and is the main design authority for the Spanish BMS. The company has extensive experience in Leopard 2 electronic systems and offers simulation solutions for the Leopard 2E and other vehicles.
Indra is making a significant investment in capabilities for the integration, production or transformation of armoured vehicles in Spain, including specific facilities for this purpose.
Eduardo Veen Martínez, CEO of Rheinmetall Business Unit Tactical Vehicles, said: ‘With this Memorandum of Understanding, Indra and Rheinmetall, two leading European defence technology companies, are entering into a strong partnership to support the Spanish Armed Forces' efforts to modernise their combat vehicle fleet.’
Ángel Escribano, Indra Group Executive Chairman, said: ‘The agreement with Rheinmetall represents a significant step in Indra's strategy to form alliances and establish collaborations to strengthen military vehicle manufacturing and digitalisation capabilities in Spain,’ adding that ‘this is an example of what we Europeans can achieve when we work together.’
