The prestigious British business newspaper Financial Times has recognised Santiago Martínez Garrido, general secretary and secretary of the board of Iberdrola, as one of the world's 20 most innovative general counsels at the 20th anniversary of the Innovative Lawyers Awards, held in London. This recognition places Martínez Garrido among the global elite in corporate legal advice.

Martínez Garrido was one of only two Spaniards to receive this distinction in this edition, alongside Luis de Carlos, former managing partner of the law firm Uría Menéndez. Both were selected for their ability to transform the practice of law in the corporate sphere, promoting pioneering initiatives that have set trends in the international legal sector.

The Financial Times jury particularly highlighted Martínez Garrido's role in driving the digital transformation of Iberdrola's legal department through the ambitious Darwin Project, which has redefined internal processes through the use of advanced technologies. The implementation of the General Secretariat and Board's Pro-Bono Programme, an initiative that has made Iberdrola a benchmark in social commitment, was also highly valued.

This international recognition reinforces Iberdrola's position as one of the companies most committed to the modernisation of the legal environment and corporate responsibility, and highlights Martínez Garrido's leadership in building a modern, efficient and socially impactful legal department.
