Spain: guest of honour at the International Agricultural Show in Morocco
The International Agricultural Show of Morocco (SIAM) is the largest agricultural event in Africa. Organised by the Moroccan Ministry of Agriculture, this year's fair focuses on the theme of climate and its relationship with agriculture in search of sustainability and resilience.
Under the slogan "Climate and agriculture: for sustainable and resilient production systems", SIAM was inaugurated in the presence of the Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Luis Planas, and his Moroccan counterpart, Mohamed Sadiki.
On this occasion, the two ministers will hold a bilateral meeting where they will discuss horizons and modes of cooperation in the agricultural field between the neighbouring countries, which go hand in hand in their fight against climate change and for the sustainability of agricultural practices.
Updates on the sixteenth edition of SIAM
This year, SIAM covers an area of 12 hectares, where 40 conferences will be held with panellists from 70 countries, as well as 1,500 exhibitors.
This space for exchange and dialogue aims to improve agricultural practices, focusing on sustainable methods, technological innovation, commercial exchanges and international cooperation. It is a very important international event which, according to the organisers, will receive an estimated 950,000 visitors.
This year, a space called "Agri-Digital" was opened to participants and visitors to shed light on the role of digital technologies in achieving profitable and sustainable agriculture.
At the same time, the space dedicated to local Moroccan products has been expanded, due to the diversity of national production, according to statements by the organisers.
As for the international space, SIAM 2024 will see the participation of new European and African countries, as well as the representation of the European Union (EU) in Morocco.
In this regard, the EU will organise meetings on production systems, agricultural value chains and adaptation strategies to the problems of water scarcity and climate change, in addition to trade opportunities and modalities of exchange between European countries.
It should be noted that the fair, in its new version, also hosts the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Erasmus+ office in the Kingdom of Morocco.
The star Spanish pavilion at SIAM 2024
As Spain is the guest of honour for this edition, the number of companies participating in the event was a record 37 companies specialising in agricultural technology.
The Spanish corner of SIAM will be attended by leading companies in agricultural machinery, irrigation technology, fertilisers, seeds and plant protection products, among others.
The very significant representation of Spanish companies at the International Agricultural Show of Morocco reflects the blossoming of bilateral relations that unite Spain and Morocco as strategic neighbours and essential partners in the Euro-African economic panorama.
