Spain's Repsol and Belgium's Ravago inaugurate their new factory in Tangier
The Spanish multi-energy company Repsol and the Belgian plastics giant Ravago have inaugurated a new compounding factory in the Tangier Automotive City free zone, in the presence of the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour.
The two partners aim to increase their production and meet the high demand from automotive professionals in the region.
Thanks to an overall investment of 20 million euros, the new facility will produce polypropylene (PP) compounds, one of the most widely used materials in the automotive sector, as well as polyamide, polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and alloy compounds, according to a joint statement from Ravago and Repsol.
Important facility for the region
The new plant, located in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, will meet the demand of local customers, especially carmakers such as Renault and Stellantis, which have supported the project from the outset.
According to a communiqué shared by the two partners and the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the production capacity of this industrial unit will be 18,500 tonnes per year, with the possibility of increasing it in the future.
"The inauguration of this factory stands out for its strategic character for the development of the national automotive industry. Equipped with cutting-edge technology, this industrial unit will consolidate our competitive position by favouring the local production of automotive parts", Ryad Mezzour underlined, mentioning that "it will also contribute to the advanced integration of the value chain and to the improvement of the sector's range".
Antonio Portela, polyolefin director at Repsol, highlighted that "the partnership with Ravago in the region allows us a better integration in the value chain of the automotive sector in Morocco".
"We will continue to invest in automotive materials and increase our production capacity in order to offer a good service for the manufacture of parts needed for the models assembled in the factories of Tangier, Kenitra and Casablanca", added Portela, stating that "this partnership will allow us to strengthen our presence in the region and offer our customers quality materials".
Manuel Cayó, commercial director of Ravago Manufacturing Europe, emphasised that "this is a key step in Ravago's growth strategy in the field of plastic composites".
Cayó placed particular emphasis on Ravago's role in accompanying its customers in terms of innovative solutions to respond to rising demand. "We are ready to collaborate with Repsol and develop our activity in Tangiers," he concluded.
Repsol is a Spanish company whose activities are focused on the exploration, production, transport and refining of oil and natural gas, and which manufactures, distributes and markets petrochemical and natural gas products.

Ravago is a Belgian company active in the distribution of polymers and chemicals, construction materials, recycling and compounding of plastic and elastomer raw materials.
The company offers a distribution, resale, compounding and recycling service for plastic materials and has 19 recycling and compounding plants installed in North America, Europe, Asia and Africa, with a combined annual capacity of more than one million metric tons.
