Between 3 and 4 October, the Moroccan city of Tangier will host the 16th edition of MedaWomen, the leading forum for women entrepreneurs in the Mediterranean region.

This event, which will take place at the Palace of Arts and Culture of Tangier, will be a unique opportunity to discuss the problems faced by women entrepreneurs in the region, to learn about regional and international experiences in this field and to create synergies and alliances with different stakeholders, both public and private.

After the success achieved in the past 15 editions, the forum has established itself as the main meeting point for representatives of the main governmental, political, financial and economic institutions in the region. This year's event in Tangiers will provide first-hand knowledge of Morocco's economic and business reality, as well as its history and culture.

Under the slogan ‘From the Mediterranean to the world. Women's leadership without borders’, this year's edition will focus on the impact of women entrepreneurs on Mediterranean and global economic development.

It is worth noting that one in three start-ups in the Mediterranean region is founded or led by women, which is a higher percentage than in Silicon Valley. In this sense, the rise of start-ups in the Mediterranean is entirely linked to the greater presence of women entrepreneurs in the region. Hence, as already raised in last year's edition, it is essential to promote entrepreneurship to boost the inclusion of women in the economic and business sphere and, in addition, to attract future investment in the region.

Despite this great progress, women entrepreneurs still face a number of obstacles that hinder full equality of opportunity with men. For example, the obstacles they face in financing their projects, the barriers to achieving work-life balance and gender equality, or the difficulties in accessing new technologies to scale their business projects.

The panelists participating in MedaWomen 2024 will discuss all these issues and seek common solutions to move towards greater equality of opportunities, greater inclusion in companies, and a greater presence of women in executive committees.

The next edition of MedaWomen will be organised by the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region (CCIS-TTA) and the Association of Women Entrepreneurs of the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Region. This world reference forum will be held in partnership with the Association of Mediterranean Chambers of Commerce (ASCAME), the Association of Moroccan Businesswomen (AFEM) and the Federation of Mediterranean Businesswomen's Organisations (AFAEMME Spain).

‘Drawing on their expertise and experience in organising this type of event, all partner associations and institutions have a key role to play in the success of this sixteenth edition,’ said Afailal Abdelatif, President of the CCIS-TTA, at a recent meeting with representatives of the various associations and institutions involved in the organisation of this sixteenth edition.

MedaWomen 2024 will also be an excellent opportunity to strengthen relations and synergies between Moroccan businesswomen and their counterparts in the Mediterranean basin, in a favourable context thanks to the new equality and social inclusion measures adopted by the Kingdom of Morocco and promoted directly by His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
