The Overview Effect, a company in the Minsait universe, celebrates the second edition of SYZYGY

‘We connect three major challenges - the climate crisis, biodiversity loss and social inequality and polarisation - with business models that enable the private sector to generate social, environmental and economic impact. It is crucial to involve organisations in solving social and environmental challenges and to link them with key actors such as international organisations, capital investors, science, media and consumers to go beyond the mere regulatory framework’. This is how Nacho Rivera, CEO of The Overview Effect - a company supported by Minsait focused on empowering organisations through impact products and services - opened the second edition of SYZYGY, the Positive Impact Innovation Festival.
During her speech at the event, Natalia Clavero, Global Head of AI and Data at Minsait, highlighted the value of digitalisation and the commitment to artificial intelligence as the key to solving these major challenges.
The expert recalled the need to address the scaling of AI both from a business point of view as well as from a social and environmental commitment under the so-called Green AI, which integrates sustainable criteria in this type of systems.
Furthermore, according to Natalia Clavero, in order to understand the impact of digitalisation, it is essential to measure its results, which ‘is also necessary to comply with regulatory requirements’, as also established by the recent European AI Law. Specific Minsait solutions have already been contributing to this objective for some time, such as its technology for the protection of birdlife, which helps to reduce the number of bird accidents at wind farms; or its solution for the rapid detection of fires near power lines, which facilitates 24-hour monitoring of fires in real time, in order to minimise response time and the impact on assets and the environment.
The second edition of the festival organised by The Overview Effect was held around four sectors selected as the ones that bring together most of the social and environmental challenges:
- Equitable and regenerative food system, with presentations by Coca-Cola, Pascual Innoventures, Corporación Hijos de Rivera, Algramo and Cocuus.
- New circular and fair models in the textile sector, with the participation of IKEA, Tendam, Adolfo Domínguez.
- Finance for Inclusion and Social Impact, Banco Santander, BBVA Microcredit Foundation, Nickel (a BNP Paribas Group company) and G-Cash, the largest Fintech in the Philippines.
- Fair energy system for people and territories, with the presence of Acciona, Iberdrola and bp through Iberdrola | bp pulse and LIUX.
SYZYGY has established itself as a benchmark in innovation with a positive impact, offering inspiring talks and spaces dedicated to the creation of systemic solutions, driven by knowledge and collaboration between leaders in each sector in Spain.
This edition presented practical workshops focused on providing solutions for the food and energy sectors, as well as facilities and experiences that highlighted the balance between biodiversity and the private sector. One experience that promotes coexistence between the Iberian wolf and livestock farming and a second for the protection of species in territories allied to the energy sector.
