West of Duddon Sands offshore wind farm celebrates a decade of clean energy generation

Iberdrola, through its UK subsidiary ScottishPower Renewables, is celebrating a decade in offshore wind energy, and is doing so on the tenth anniversary of the commissioning of the West of Duddon Sands offshore wind farm. The 389 MW plant was commissioned in 2014 with 108 wind turbines located in the Irish Sea, some 14 kilometres off the coast of Cumbria.

Over the past ten years it has produced enough renewable energy to power the equivalent of around 340,000 homes a year. The project involved an investment of more than 1 billion pounds and generated 1,000 jobs at the peak of construction.
