The CosmoCaixa Science Museum presents a new Neo Night in which science will be combined with technology, art and the most innovative culture. With the Neo Neuroscience event, which will take place on Friday 18 November, the centre will offer a range of activities related to the power of our brain, aimed at a curious and culturally restless public.

In the year of Santiago Ramón y Cajal, considered the father of neuroscience, the Science Museum pays special attention to the drawings he made to illustrate in detail his findings on the nervous system and develop the so-called "doctrine of the neuron". This twinning of art and science contributed decisively to the birth of a field of research dedicated to the study of the fundamental and emergent properties of neurons and neural networks. The curiosity to understand how the brain works has aroused the passion of artists and scientists throughout time. In this Neo session, the "la Caixa" Foundation aims to bring visitors to the CosmoCaixa Science Museum closer to some of the most relevant current contributions on this interesting subject.

A night of sensory experiences

Neo Night will be held from 7 pm to 10.30 pm in different areas of the museum. Visitors can start with a guided tour of the large dome in the shape of the human brain in the permanent exhibition, where they can learn about some of the mysteries of our brain. They will then be able to enjoy the experience offered by the immersive installation Vestibular_1, by Albert Barqué-Duran and Marc Marzenit, which induces the audience to experience illusory sensations of their own movement in absolute darkness by interrupting their vestibular functioning. This installation can be visited throughout Neo Night.

At 7.30 p.m., the Planetarium will become the neurological epicentre of electronic music. The Russian artist Dasha Rush will present "Aurora cerebralis" in collaboration with Alex Guevara. This is the Catalan premiere of an experimental electronic audiovisual show created especially for 360º domes and inspired by the activity of the neuronal network. Visitors will enter a brain and observe how electrical signals evolve into dense neural formations. There will be a second session of this show at 10 p.m.

Conversations with the artists

The protagonists of this groundbreaking show will also offer a conversation in the Ágora room, where both the Russian artist and the expert Peruvian audiovisual artist, both resident in Berlin, will share with visitors the method of elaboration of this project, using generative images of brain activity and neuronal connections to create a dance on the threshold of simulation and stimulation.

The talks in the Ágora room will continue with the contributions of Albert Barqué-Durán, artist and researcher, who will give the keys to discovering how the perception of our body and mind can be manipulated by means of artistic languages such as light and sound. And he will do so by taking as an example his immersive installation Vestibular_1, in which he explores and experiments with this phenomenon.

The Neo label: uniting science and art

Neo is a new, transformative and stimulating proposal for activities at the CosmoCaixa Science Museum. The Neo programme brings together different scientific and technological disciplines to bring visitors closer to today's great challenges through the most innovative artistic forms and practices. Beyond the theme nights, the Neo programme has become a consolidated proposal for activities at the Science Museum.

To facilitate the purchase of tickets, the museum has prepared a pack so that attendees can access, with a single ticket, to all the activities programmed for this Neo Night.
