Facebook to create 10,000 new jobs in the EU to develop the metaverse

Facebook is working on the development of the next chapter of the internet, what it has called the metaverse, a virtual environment for online interaction for which the company has announced it will create 10,000 new jobs across the European Union (EU).
The metaverse, as Facebook sees it, is a new phase of interconnected virtual experiences through the use of technologies such as virtual and augmented reality. An environment where you can be present with people in digital spaces, and where the feeling of presence will become very important.

As Vice President of Global Affairs Nick Clegg and Vice President of Core Products Javier Olivan explain, by creating a greater sense of 'virtual presence', online interaction can come much closer to the experience of interacting in person. In this way, the metaverse has the potential to help unlock access to new creative, social and economic opportunities.
And to develop this metaverse, Facebook on Monday announced a plan to create 10,000 new high-skilled jobs in the EU over the next five years. The company will initially prioritise the search for highly specialised engineers.

The two executives say they will work with governments across the EU to find the right people and the right markets for the development of this project.
The company says this investment is a vote of confidence in the strength of the European technology industry and the potential of European technology talent.
