Antonio Ecarri: "We thank Spain for its firmness in guaranteeing the integrity of Leopoldo López"

The Venezuelan Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain appointed by the National Assembly, Antonio Ecarri Bolívar, thanked Spain for "the firmness with which it has guaranteed the integrity of Leopoldo López, who has been a guest at the residence of the Spanish Ambassador in Caracas since 30 April 2019". This action has allowed the political leader to be with his family today and to begin a new phase as presidential commissioner for the coordination of the Government Centre.

Antonio Ecarri informed, through an official note from the Embassy, that the operation for López's departure, both from the diplomatic headquarters in Caracas and from Venezuela, has been successfully completed. "It has circumvented the dictatorship's repressive apparatus, which shows that it is increasingly weakened," he said.

Ecarri has also protested against the regime's actions against the diplomatic staff of the Spanish Embassy in Caracas, which included raids on their residences and arbitrary arrests of several of the workers at the diplomatic headquarters.

Finally, Ambassador Ecarri stated that: "The members of the legitimate government of Venezuela, presided over by President Juan Guaidó, thank and acknowledge all the diplomatic personnel of the Spanish Embassy in Caracas for their commitment to democracy in Venezuela". Antonio Ecarri has also encouraged the Venezuelans in Spain to make this an additional boost in the fight for Venezuela's freedom.
