The Saharawi Association for the Defence of Human Rights (ASADEDH) issued an official statement in which it denounced the "serious repression" suffered by "defenceless civilian demonstrators" who were protesting outside the General Secretariat of the Polisario Front demanding the release of the Spanish citizen of Saharawi origin, Mohamed Salem Sueid, an activist in favour of the fight against corruption and fraud.

The official statement of ASADEDH is reproduced below:

From this association, the Saharawi Association for the Defence of Human Rights (ASADEDH), we denounce the serious repression suffered this day by defenceless civilian demonstrators who were demonstrating in front of the General Secretariat of the Polisario demanding the release of the Spanish citizen of Saharawi origin Mohammed Salem Sueid, anti-corruption and anti-fraud activist, arrested on 6 May.

During this cowardly repression committed by the forces of repression of the Polisario, several people were injured, including the sister of the detainee Jreifina Salem Sueid, and at least eight people have also been arrested, including the well-known defender of human rights in these camps, El Hossein Sidi Mousa, who were handcuffed and violently transferred to the dreaded prison of Dhebia near the Algerian city of Tindouf.

It should be noted that this association informed the Spanish Consulate General in Oran of the detention of the Spanish activist of Saharawi origin at the time of his arrest.

Again, through this press release we hold the leadership of Polisario and the Algerian authorities responsible for the fate of our compatriots, since these human rights violations are being committed
