This gesture is evidence of its support for "Morocco's territorial integrity"

Cabo Verde abre un consulado en Dajla

TWITTER/MAROC DIPLOMATIE - The Moroccan Foreign Minister, Nasser Bourita, and his Cape Verdean counterpart, Rui Alberto de Figueiredo, signed today in Dakhla a roadmap for cooperation between Morocco and Cape Verde

The Republic of Cape Verde has inaugurated a consulate in the city of Dakhla in a ceremony presided over by the Cape Verdean Foreign Minister, Rui Alberto de Figueiredo, and the Moroccan Foreign Minister, Naser Burita.

The opening of the consulate in Dakhla comes a day after the two representatives officially inaugurated the Cape Verdean embassy in Rabat, after they jointly issued a communiqué on the sidelines of the 1st Ministerial Conference of Atlantic African States last June. In it, Figueiredo Soares reaffirmed his country's support for Morocco's territorial integrity and applauded the efforts of the United Nations to seek a solution to the Sahara conflict in order to maintain "stability in the region".

He also reiterated his support for the search for "a lasting solution" that seeks to preserve the territorial integrity of the Alawi kingdom, under the aegis of the UN, and to ensure compliance with decision 693 of the Summit of Heads of State and Government of the African Union in July 2018.

Cape Verde is preceded by some thirty countries, mainly African, Arab and Latin American, which have opened a consulate in the city of Dakhla - the former Spanish Villa Cisneros - and in al-Aaiún, considered by Morocco as part of the southern provinces belonging to its country. Following the successive openings of consulates in Dakhla, the King of Morocco, Mohamed VI, congratulated the countries for their decision because, according to the king, "they mark a clear and concrete support for the territorial integrity of the kingdom and the Moroccan nature of the Sahara".

Thus, diplomatic relations between Morocco and Cape Verde are going through one of their best moments after having worked to develop "solid relations of fruitful cooperation" and "effective solidarity" to demonstrate their commitment and ties as African brothers. In this relationship, the two countries have shown themselves to be optimistic and favourable to continuing to share the will to contribute to the maintenance of peace and stability in Africa through mutual collaboration.
