The Emir of Kuwait elects his new cabinet of ministers after the parliamentary elections

This Monday, the Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah has informed through the state news agency KUNA about the election of his new government. Among them is the re-election of Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid as Prime Minister.

Sabah Al-Khalid had previously resigned after the parliamentary elections of 6 December. The Kuwaitis went to the polls to vote for the new parliamentary government of the Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad, who ascended to the throne on 29 September that year. Among the 31 elected deputies there is no woman among the 33 who had stood for election.

However, Amir Nawaf Al-Ahmad has announced his cabinet of ministers, which is as follows: Hamad Jabar Al-Ali Al-Sabah and Anas Khaled Al Salch have been elected as deputy prime ministers, the former also remaining as defence minister and Khaled Al Salch as minister of state for cabinet affairs.

Essa Ahmad Al-Kandari remains as Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs. Dr Mohammad Abdullatif Al-Fares will be in charge of the Ministry of Oil and the Ministry of Electricity and Water. The previous cabinet resigned after the elections because the opposition made great strides in removing almost two-thirds of its legislators from their seats.

The Ministry of Health is now in the hands of Dr. Basel Hmoud Al-Sabah. As for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr Ahmad Nasser Mohammad Al-Sabah remains in charge. In addition, the position of Minister of Public Works and the Minister of State for Municipal Affairs will be held by Dr Rana Abdullah Al-Fares, the only woman in government.

As Minister of State for National Assembly Affairs Mubarak Salem Al-Harees Thamer Ali Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah is in charge of the Ministry of Interior. Khalifa Musa'ad Hamada is appointed Minister of Finance. Abdulrahman Badah Al-Mutairi has been elected Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs.

In the Ministry of State for Housing and Ministry of State for Services Dr Abdullah Abdulsamad Marafi. As Minister of Education and Dr. Ali Fahad Al-Mudhaf of Higher Education.

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is headed by Faisal Abdulrahman Al-Medlej and the Ministry of Justice by Dr Nawaf Saud Al Yassin.
