Boosting security relations between Morocco and China
The Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGST-DGSN), Abdellatif Hammouchi, received Yu Jinsong, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Morocco, with the aim of giving new impetus to security relations between Rabat and Beijing.
In the words of Ambassador Yu Jinsong, ‘Morocco is of essential importance to China's international security and is considered a “friendly country” and a guarantor of stability in the North African region.’
Along the same lines, Hammouchi praised China's stance, noting that ‘there is great synergy’ and that ‘the basis of Sino-Moroccan relations is mutual trust.’
Strengthening of relations following Chinese support for the Moroccan autonomy plan
The diplomatic efforts made by the North African country have resulted in Beijing's request to collaborate with Rabat in the preparations for the 93rd General Assembly of the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL), to be held in the city of Marrakech between 24 and 27 November this year.
Relations between China and Morocco are at a high point following the Asian giant's decision not to veto and to enact the Moroccan Autonomy Plan for the resolution of the Moroccan Sahara conflict in the United Nations Security Council.
China's support is an international gesture that reflects Morocco's efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region.
Increased role of Moroccan security in Europe
The importance of Moroccan security is gaining ground in Europe. In addition to direct participation in major events, such as the Olympic Games in Paris and the European Football Championship in Germany, there is the precision with which members of the Moroccan police operate throughout the continent.
The most recent case was the arrest of a minor who was planning an attack in Amsterdam, the capital of the Netherlands. Although the interception was carried out by Dutch security forces, European officials have pointed out that collaboration with agents from the DGSN-DGST was crucial to the arrest.
The presence of the police force led by Hammouchi in Europe is becoming increasingly important. But not only in terms of collaboration, but also on a personal level. Hammouchi's role at the helm of Morocco's national security is being handsomely rewarded.
