Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance (DGSN-DGST), met with the acting Chief Inspector of Police of the Pakistani Ministry of the Interior, Salman Choudhry, to discuss the importance of bilateral security cooperation.

Partnering against global threats

Among the areas discussed were concerns over illegal immigration and the security challenges arising from it, especially in the wake of the recent boat sinking tragedy off the coast of Dakhla.

According to the DGSN in an official statement, the meeting was an opportunity for the Pakistani leaders to thank the Moroccan authorities for the support and the actions and interventions deployed in favour of Pakistani nationals who were victims of an international irregular migration network.

Fight against terrorism

Both Hammouchi and Choudhry stressed the concern of both countries regarding human trafficking and irregular migration. Following the meeting, the two leaders hope to see expanded lines of cooperation and coordination in the fight against terrorism given Pakistan's geographic proximity to al-Qaeda and Daesh affiliated groups active in the region.

Rabat's international efforts to neutralise risks and threats are increasingly recognised around the world. Both Moroccans and Pakistanis agreed on the importance of strengthening counter-terrorism efforts by implementing best practices and exchanging confidential information between the two intelligence services.

Morocco's role in international security

The visit underscores Morocco's commitment to strengthening international security relations. By working with global allies, the North African country seeks to consolidate its counter-terrorism and security expertise, while collaborating on broader initiatives to combat global threats.

This collaboration with Pakistan not only reinforces Morocco's position as an important player in global security, but also highlights its proactive approach to addressing complex challenges through diplomacy and cooperation.

The two senior officials discussed new ways of working together to improve the security of their citizens. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to address global security challenges and contribute to regional and international stability.
