  1. Morocco: a benchmark in regional security

This Sunday in Tunis, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance of Morocco, Abdellatif Hammouchi, was awarded the Prince Nayef Medal for Arab Security. This prestigious award is given to outstanding personalities in the field of security in recognition of their key role and exceptional contributions to stability and security in the Arab world.

According to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security, the award was announced during the 42nd session of the Council of Arab Ministers of the Interior.

The General Secretariat of the Prince Nayef Award for Arab Security chose Abdellatif Hammouchi to receive this distinction in recognition of ‘his successful efforts to strengthen security cooperation and elevate the Arab presence in international forums’.

The press release emphasises that the Prince Nayef Medal for Arab Security is one of the most prestigious distinctions at a regional level, awarded to leaders who have achieved significant advances in security and have contributed to peace and stability in the Arab world.

This recognition reaffirms Morocco's key role as a pillar of security in the region and globally. In a context of constantly evolving threats, figures such as Hammouchi continue to lead strategic initiatives, underlining the importance of international cooperation in the fight against crime and the preservation of stability.

Morocco: a benchmark in regional security

Morocco has consolidated its position as a key player in the security of the Arab world, with Hammouchi at the head of the DGSN. His leadership has strengthened international cooperation in the fight against terrorism, organised crime and other emerging threats, positioning the country as a bastion of stability in the region.

Under his leadership, Morocco has adopted a proactive and highly effective approach to the fight against extremism. Through the DGST, Rabat has dismantled numerous terrorist cells and has thwarted attacks before they materialise. In addition, its security model has been recognised internationally thanks to its close collaboration with agencies such as INTERPOL, Europol and intelligence services from Arab and Western countries.

This international leadership was reflected at the 92nd INTERPOL General Assembly, held in Glasgow in 2024, where Hammouchi led the Moroccan delegation to address issues of comprehensive security and international police cooperation.

At the close of the session, Hammouchi received the INTERPOL flag, symbolising the transfer of the organisation to Morocco, the host country of the 93rd General Assembly, to be held in Marrakech in 2025. The choice of Morocco for this high-level event underlines global confidence in its ability to lead on security matters.

Likewise, Hammouchi has promoted cooperation with countries in the Gulf, the Maghreb and Europe in intelligence exchange and police training. Morocco participates actively in regional security forums and has played a key role in the security strategy of the Council of Arab Ministers of the Interior.

With his strategic approach and firm commitment to regional stability, Hammouchi continues to strengthen Morocco's position as an essential partner in international security.
