The National Council of Resistance of Iran issued a statement condemning the release of Iranian diplomat-terrorist Assadollah Assadi 15 years before the end of his sentence as encouraging terrorism and an attack on human rights.

The statement of the National Council of Resistance of Iran is reproduced below:

At noon on Friday 26 May 2023, the Government of Oman announced that "the prisoner exchange between Belgium and Iran is underway".

The Iranian Resistance strongly condemns the release of terrorist diplomat Assadollah Assadi and his return to Iran under the ruling religious dictatorship. The release of this terrorist diplomat, despite the fact that the Constitutional Court had clearly stated in its ruling that the Belgian government must inform the victims before transferring the convicted persons so that they have the opportunity to bring the case back to court.

The release of the terrorist who organised and directed the biggest criminal act in Europe after the Second World War, in violation of the Court's judgment, is a shameful rescue of terrorism and hostage-taking. This will encourage the religious fascism ruling Iran to continue its crimes in the Islamic Republic through repression and regional and international terrorism. From May 1st to 25th, 127 people were executed in Iran.

The Iranian Resistance will continue to demand justice in Belgium and internationally whenever possible.
