El rey Mohamed VI recibe a la delegación de Estados Unidos e Israel
King Mohammed VI of Morocco received Donald Trump's chief advisor to the US government, Jared Kushner, and Israel's national security advisor, Meir Ben-Shabbat, at the Royal Palace in Rabat, as confirmed in an official statement by the Alaouite Royal Cabinet
Jared Kushner and Meir Ben-Shabbat were part of a high-level delegation which also included the US Special Representative for International Negotiations, Avrahm Berkowitz. This is part of the strategy led by the United States for the establishment of diplomatic links between the Hebrew state and several Arab countries, which has recently been joined by countries such as the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Sudan.
At this important meeting, the Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan of Morocco accompanied King Mohammed VI during the meeting. The Alaouite monarch once again expressed his full satisfaction at Donald Trump's decision to recognise Morocco's sovereignty over Western Sahara, something the US president himself confirmed in a personal conversation with the Moroccan king on 10 December. During the call, King Mohammed VI announced Morocco's decision to re-establish official diplomatic relations with Israel; hence this historic reception by Morocco for the American and Israeli delegation, which marks a historic rapprochement with the Hebrew state.
This rapprochement with the kingdom of Morocco includes measures aimed at promoting a dynamic and innovative cooperative bilateral economy and plans to reopen liaison offices in Rabat and Tel Aviv.
During the meeting, King Mohammed VI congratulated Kushner on the "substantial work carried out since his visit to Morocco in May 2018, which made it possible to reach this historic turning point in favour of Morocco's territorial integrity", and on his efforts to ensure regional peace in the Middle East. King Mohammed VI also spoke to Meir Ben-Shabbat about the special links with the Moroccan Jewish community; here it is worth recalling the large presence of the Jewish community on Moroccan territory, one of the oldest present in North Africa.
The official note of the Royal Cabinet also stated that the meeting between the King, Mr Ben-Shabbat and Jared Kushner served as an opportunity to reaffirm that the states will fully implement all the decisions and measures announced during the telephone call of 10 December between King Mohammed VI and Trump.
The Royal Cabinet concluded the statement by reiterating Morocco's position on the Palestinian cause. Morocco considers that the Palestinian-Israeli conflict can only come to an end through negotiations between Israel and Palestine leading to a two-state solution to guarantee peace and security.
At the end of this royal audience, the Moroccan head of government, Saad Eddine El Othmani, signed before King Mohammed VI a Joint Declaration between the Kingdom of Morocco, the United States and the State of Israel, in the presence of Jared Kushner and Meir Ben-Shabbat.
Also present at this hearing were Adam Seth Boehler, executive director of the United States International Development Finance Company, Fouad Ali El Himma, advisor to His Majesty the King, and Nasser Bourita, Moroccan foreign minister.
