Before taking off for Morocco, the Moncloa has confirmed the meeting between King Mohammed VI and the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez. The meeting will take place in the afternoon during a royal audience in which, according to Moncloa sources - quoted by El Mundo - issues such as cooperation on the control of illegal immigration and preparations for the 2030 World Cup will be discussed.

According to diplomatic sources consulted by Rue20 Español, the audience between the Moroccan monarch and the head of the Spanish government will take place between 14:00 and 16:00 today, Wednesday, at the Royal Palace in Rabat.

Sánchez and Mohammed VI were unable to meet during the Spanish leader's last trip a year ago on the occasion of the High Level Meeting, a summit that consolidated the new stage in Spanish-Moroccan relations.

Since then, ties between Rabat and Madrid have deepened in a number of areas - most notably trade and investment - based on mutual respect, trust and dialogue.

Before the meeting with Mohammed VI, Sánchez met with the Moroccan Prime Minister, Aziz Akhannouch. The meeting was attended by the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Bourita, and his Spanish counterpart, José Manuel Albares.

Sánchez and Akhannouch highlighted the bilateral ties, relations which, according to the Spanish leader, "are going through their best moment in decades"

"With this official visit we are giving a boost to our cooperation in all areas and consolidating a model of constructive neighbourliness based on trust and mutual respect," Sánchez said on his arrival in Morocco, which he describes as a "neighbour, friend and strategic partner".

Sánchez was received at Rabat airport by Akhannouch and, after reviewing a detachment of the Royal Air Force, the Spanish leader greeted the Wali of the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region, Mohamed Yacoubi; the president of the Salé Communal Council, Omar Sentissi; the chargé d'affaires of the Spanish Embassy in Rabat, Borja Montesinos; and the Moroccan ambassador in Madrid, Karima Benyaich, according to MAP
