The Social Protection Agency created by Mohammed VI to reduce poverty and boost social development will mobilise more than 25 billion dirhams

Morocco's head of government, Aziz Akhannouch, chaired this week the first meeting of the Board of Directors of the National Agency for Social Support (ANSS), created by order of King Mohammed VI, with the aim of developing and implementing social support policies, in particular the direct social assistance programme launched at the end of 2023.
According to budget forecasts, the programme will mobilise an estimated investment of 25 billion dirhams - 2.373 billion euros - by 2024.
During this first meeting, the Board of Directors discussed the strategic aspects related to the creation of the ANSS, approving its programme of action and the projected budget for 2025. In addition, the organisation chart and human resources of the ANSS were approved.
According to the actual guidelines, the direct social assistance programme aims to improve the standard of living of vulnerable families, reduce poverty and promote social development, in full respect of the principles of transparency, equity, solidarity and good governance, as stated in a press release from the head of government.

This programme, promoted by the government through the Unified Social Registry, benefits nearly 4 million households, including 5.4 million children and 1.2 million people over 60.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the delegated minister responsible for the budget, Fouzi Lekjaa, stressed that the direct social assistance granted to citizens constitutes one of the essential pillars of the important and inclusive social protection project.

The meeting was attended by several ministers, including the Minister of the Interior, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Enterprises, Employment and Skills, and the Minister of Solidarity, Social Inclusion and Family. The Minister Delegate to the Minister of Economy and Finance, who is in charge of the budget, the High Commissioner for Planning, the Director General of the National Planning Agency for Social Support and the Director General of the Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion group also participated in the meeting.
