As the Moroccan news agency recalls, the Kingdom is Brussels' main economic and trade partner on the African continent. Likewise, the EU is Morocco's main trading partner. Trade exchanges between the two parties account for more than 60% of the total volume of trade.
As she pointed out on her Twitter account, the European leader indicated that during the meeting with Akhannouch they discussed the current situation in the region after the Hamas terrorist attack against Israeli civilians. Von der Leyen also renewed the EU's commitment to contribute to the reconstruction programme in the regions affected by the 8 September earthquake.
Shortly after the brutal earthquake, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, assured that the EU was ready to support Morocco in these difficult times.
