Cities across the Kingdom, including Rabat, Marrakech and Tangier, have commemorated this important milestone with public ceremonies

Today Morocco celebrates the 68th anniversary of the creation of the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN), an agency currently headed by Abdellatif Hammouchi. This day is seen by Moroccans as an occasion to celebrate with pride and reverence the institution's unwavering commitment to protecting public order and serving citizens.

The DGSN, founded in 1956, has undergone numerous reforms over the years that have strengthened its position and confirmed its influence at national and international level. These transformations have also enabled the institution to adapt to the changing security landscape, ensuring that it remains effective in protecting the citizens of Morocco.

Numerous public celebrations have taken place in cities across the Kingdom, such as Rabat, Marrakech and Tangier. In the capital, for example, the ceremony was presided over by Mustapha Moufid, the police prefect of Rabat-Salé-Témara-Khémisset, and included a parade showcasing the various units and capabilities of the DGSN, reports Morocco World News.

The DGSN has been a key pillar in maintaining law and order in Morocco. Its efforts since its creation have paid off in recent years. According to the organisation's annual report for 2023, the country ended the year with a 10% drop in the crime rate compared to the previous year. This reflects the hard work and dedication of the men and women who make up the DGSN.

The institution's success could be attributed to its commitment to modernising its methods and adapting to the changing security landscape. The DGSN, under Hammouchi's leadership, has invested heavily in technology, training and community engagement, ensuring that it remains effective in crime prevention and response.

Its efforts have not gone unnoticed and the institution has received both national and international recognition for its contributions to the maintenance of peace and stability.
