The King of Morocco, Mohammed VI, sent a message of congratulations to the President of the United States, Joe Biden, on the occasion of the celebration of the American Independence Day on July 4.

Mohammed VI expressed his congratulations and took the opportunity to demonstrate once again Morocco's determination to strengthen bilateral cooperation with the American giant and to demonstrate the strong ties that exist with the United States.

The Royal Court message was broadcast by the official Moroccan news agency MAP, and in it, the Moroccan king expressed on his own behalf and on behalf of the Moroccan people "his warm congratulations to President Biden and his sincere wishes for more progress and prosperity for the American people".

Mohammed VI also took the opportunity to convey to President Biden his "great satisfaction at the steady development of the bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation that unite the two countries, stressing that these centuries-old relations, deeply rooted in history and based on a strong and multidimensional strategic partnership and solid human ties, reflect the unwavering commitment of Morocco and the United States to high universal values and their active action for the preservation of international security and stability", as MAP agency pointed out.

Mohammed VI also showed 'his firm determination to continue working with the US president to further strengthen the distinguished relations between the two countries in various fields and to deepen coordination and consultation on regional and international issues of common interest'.

King Mohammed VI thus reiterated Morocco's determination to boost bilateral cooperation with the US, arguing that the two countries have long demonstrated their firm commitment to strengthening their multi-sectoral relationship and working to strengthen international security and stability.

"I take this glorious occasion to express to you my deep satisfaction with the firm steps taken by the friendly and cooperative relations between our two countries," the King said, noting that the bilateral ties between Rabat and Washington are "rooted in history and based on a strong multidimensional strategic partnership and strong human ties," as also reported by various media outlets such as Morocco World News.

The relationship between the two countries is quite close. Historically, Morocco was the first country in the world to recognise the independence of the United States on 4 July 1776. And in recent years, the relationship has been strengthened after Donald Trump's administration recognised the Moroccan sovereignty of Western Sahara in December 2020 in exchange for the Moroccan kingdom establishing diplomatic ties with Israel, following in the wake of the Abraham Accords, signed in September 2020, which enabled Arab nations such as the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain to establish relations with the Israeli state with a view to pacifying the Middle East and developing the region socially and economically.

The impetus given by the United States led other major countries such as Germany, the United Arab Emirates and Spain to recognise Morocco's proposal for Western Sahara as the 'most serious, credible and realistic' way of resolving the Sahrawi conflict, which has lasted for more than four decades. The Kingdom proposes a formula of broad autonomy for Western Sahara under Moroccan sovereignty, respecting UN resolutions, and enjoys strong international support. On the other hand, the Polisario Front's initiative for a referendum on independence for the Sahrawi population has less international support, including that of Algeria, Morocco's great rival in the Maghreb.
