The Assembly of the Movement Saharawi for Peace (MSP) meeting on 17 and 18 August approved the proposal of the Commission for rules and statutes concerning the postponement for six months of the Second Congress of the Movement which should be held next October.
The meeting, which was attended by members of the Political Commission, the Central Committee, as well as those responsible for the different Commissions, Coordinators and Groupings of the Movement, focused on the latest developments of the problem of Western Sahara and the evaluation of the work and activities done by the different bodies of the Movement in the last four years both internally and externally.

The reasons for postponing the Congress were explained by the first secretary and the other members of the political leadership of the MSP, pointing out the need to observe the evolution of events, especially the political process and the initiatives of the personal representative of the UN Secretary General, Staffan de Mistura, as well as the debate planned in the Security Council at the end of October for the renewal of the mandate of MINURSO.
The MSP Assembly reiterated the recent appeal made by the Permanent Political Committee for an agreement with the Kingdom of Morocco on the basis of a moderate and pragmatic approach which would put an end to the dispute and guarantee the Saharawis their fundamental rights.
The Assembly assessed positively the balance of the four years, highlighting the presence and the role of the Saharawi tribal notables in the efforts and initiatives to pave the way towards a definitive settlement of the dispute in which there are neither winners nor losers.
In this regard, the importance and desirability of the proposal for a peaceful solution announced at the Dakar Conference was underlined, which advocates a special status for the Sahara to be agreed with the Kingdom of Morocco under international guarantees for the creation of an entity with powers, competences and resources to enable the Saharawis to manage their own affairs.
