Nuevo acercamiento entre Marruecos y Alemania con la vuelta de la embajadora Zehour Alaoui
The normalisation of diplomatic ties between Morocco and Germany continues. In this sense, now comes the return of Ambassador Zehour Alaoui to Berlin after the Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs has positively assessed the latest constructive and positive stance of the new German government.
Morocco thus returns its ambassador to Berlin, Zehour Alaoui, as reported by the media Rue20, after the new German government of Olaf Scholz showed its support for the Moroccan proposal to resolve the situation in Western Sahara, based on a broad autonomy for the region under Alawite sovereignty within the postulates of the United Nations.
In this way, a complicated situation is being resolved. Morocco recalled its ambassador for consultations in May due to Germany's "hostile positions", referring to the lack of support for the Sahara issue. All this after the Alawi kingdom received important international support for its Western Sahara initiative, such as that of Donald Trump's former US administration, which recognised the Moroccan status of the Sahara in exchange for the North African country establishing diplomatic ties with the state of Israel.
Other favourable gestures were also made, such as the announcement of the opening of consulates in strategic enclaves like Dakhla by important nations such as the US giant itself and the United Arab Emirates.
In this scenario, Morocco did not understand Germany's negative stance. But the new government of Olaf Scholz changed the trend and decided to be more favourable to Morocco's position on the Sahara. This determination has led to the current diplomatic rapprochement between Morocco and Germany.
The Moroccan leadership announced a few days ago the re-establishment of diplomatic relations with Germany, and the Moroccan Foreign Ministry welcomed the latest positive and constructive stance of the German government. In an official communiqué, the Kingdom's Foreign Ministry pointed out that this new German stance allowed the resumption of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, as reported by Morocco's official news agency MAP.
The German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed by Annalena Baerbock, pointed out in a press release that the Moroccan proposal for Western Sahara is key to resolving the regional situation. In the same official statement, support was also expressed for the UN Secretary General's personal envoy for Western Sahara, Staffan de Mistura, appointed last November.
These diplomatic moves continue to work in depth to put an end to the uncomfortable situation that had arisen between two countries of great importance in North Africa and on the European continent.
