Senegal has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Morocco's sovereignty and territorial integrity, including in the Western Sahara region. This was stated by the Senegalese Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, Yassine Fall, during a recent visit to Rabat, reports Morocco World News.

In a joint statement issued after her meeting with her Moroccan counterpart, Nasser Bourita, Minister Fall underlined Senegal's firm and constant support for Morocco's autonomy plan, which Dakar considers the only credible and realistic solution to the regional conflict over Western Sahara.

The head of Senegalese diplomacy also praised the efforts of the United Nations to facilitate a practical, realistic and sustainable resolution of the conflict. In particular, she highlighted the role of the UN as the exclusive framework for such negotiations.

The minister's statement comes after Senegal last week expressed its support for Morocco's autonomy plan. The African country was also one of the African Union member states that reaffirmed its position in favour of Morocco's sovereignty over its southern provinces at a C24 regional seminar in Venezuela.

During the meeting, Senegal's deputy permanent representative to the UN, Diamane Diome, stressed that his country considers Morocco's autonomy initiative a "serious and credible" solution to the regional conflict.

Diome stressed that this initiative is in line with international law, the UN Charter and the relevant Security Council and General Assembly resolutions.

The Senegalese diplomat also described the Moroccan proposal as the "best compromise solution", stressing the support it receives from the international community, as demonstrated by the opening of 30 different state representations in Laayoune and Dakhla.

Senegal's commitment to Morocco's territorial integrity was also demonstrated by the opening of a consulate general in the city of Dakhla in April 2021.
