Sudanese Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok announced on Sunday the dissolution of the transitional government in order to form a new one, which will include people from rebel groups belonging to the Sudan Revolutionary Front, who were at the centre of last October's peace deal.

The Transitional Partnership Council, the body in charge of negotiating the steps to be taken during these months, and which includes both the outgoing government and the rebel groups, will announce this Monday the composition of the new government, a decision that was planned last week but has been postponed several times. The Sudanese state news agency, the Sudanese State News Agency, has broken the news, and will report later in the day on the swearing-in of the replacements.

This is one of the steps to be followed by Sudan in the agreed process. After the government, governors and the Legislative Council will have to be elected, which is also expected to happen this month. The rebels will then make up at least 25% of the seats in the new government.

Among the rebel groups that are not part of the RSF are the Sudan People's Liberation Movement and the Sudan Liberation Movement, led by Abdulaziz al Hilu and Abdeluahid el Nur respectively, with whom no agreement has been reached despite their efforts.

In Sudan, civilians and the military continue to struggle for power after the fall of Omar al-Bashir in a coup d'état. Friction between the two sides has made it difficult for the steps outlined to be taken in a timely manner, which has worried the international community for fear that a new conflict could break out.

This new executive will be mandated to lead the country to an electoral process that will establish a democratic government to end the civilian-military transition period and put the Bashir regime behind it.
