The Moroccan Embassy in Spain is grateful for the strong support of the Spanish nation after the earthquake

The Moroccan Embassy in Spain expressed its deep appreciation and gratitude for the support shown by Spain, a neighbouring and allied nation, after the strong earthquake suffered by the North African country, which had its epicentre near Marrakech and has left at least 2,300 dead and more than 2,000 wounded.
The Moroccan ambassador in Madrid, Karima Benyaich, on behalf of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Moroccan community resident in Spain, expressed her "deep gratitude" to the Spanish authorities and the "friendly and brotherly" Spanish people for all the signs of solidarity and support shown after the strong seismic movement suffered in the North African country. Just at a time when diplomatic relations between the two countries are excellent due to the good political harmony that has recently resulted from Spain's support for the Moroccan proposal for Western Sahara, and which was endorsed by the last High Level Meeting held in Rabat, which led to numerous important agreements between the two countries on different matters.

Spain expressed its full support and condolences to Morocco on behalf of the highest national authorities. Thus, King Felipe VI sent a telegram to King Mohammed VI on Saturday expressing the "deepest feelings of grief" of the Spanish people for the "violent" earthquake suffered and showing all their sorrow for this tragedy.
Felipe VI referred to Mohammed VI in fraternal terms as "your majesty" and "dear brother", giving his full support. "I am devastated to receive the news of the violent earthquake that has affected the town of Ighil and the southwest of your country, which has caused a very high number of deaths and injuries, and I wish to convey to you, on my behalf, on behalf of the government and on behalf of the Spanish people, our deepest sorrow for the terrible consequences of this disaster, as well as our heartfelt condolences," said the Spanish monarch.
The Spanish government led by Pedro Sánchez also expressed its condolences and provided all the necessary assistance to help in the emergency and health work. Pedro Sánchez himself reaffirmed the European Union's aid to the Moroccan kingdom, "as friends and allies", following the earthquake. The Spanish President referred on the social network X, formerly known as Twitter, to a letter sent by Charles Michel, President of the European Council, Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and all European leaders to the King of Morocco showing their condolences and offering all necessary assistance.
Also, the leader of the Spanish political opposition, the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, expressed his full support and solidarity for the Moroccan people after the tragedy. "After the earthquake in Morocco, all my support and solidarity with our neighbouring country, my condolences to the families of the deceased and my wishes for the recovery of the injured," the PP leader said through social networks.
Through social networks and various public demonstrations, messages of total support and solidarity arrived for the Moroccan kingdom in the face of this strong seismic movement that has left a high number of deaths and injuries and has caused the collapse of many buildings and infrastructures.

Other signs of closeness and support were shown at public events, such as at various sports competitions in Spain, where a minute's silence was observed for all the victims of this terrible earthquake in Morocco.
The charity Caritas in Spain has also activated an emergency campaign to help the victims of the earthquake in Morocco by channelling various contributions from Spanish donors to help with the humanitarian emergency caused by the quake, which had its epicentre near Marrakech. Those interested in donating can do so through the website www.caritas.es.
