The organisation makes an urgent appeal to the international community and the Algerian state about the serious conditions of the Saharawi refugees

The Movement Saharawi for Peace (MSP) has issued an official statement in which it expresses its deep concern about the "dramatic situation in the Saharawi camps in Algeria".

The MSP denounces the serious insecurity, aggravated by the death of two young Saharawis, Ahmed ould Cheikh ould Suïd and Lemgheivri ould Brahim ould Bombari, who were killed after being shot.

The MSP denounces that "practically all the people in the camps are armed, creating a climate of violence and fear".

Urgent appeal to the international community and the Algerian State

We, members of the Movement Saharawi for Peace, express our deep concern about the dramatic situation in the Saharawi camps in Algeria. These camps, which should be havens of peace for the Saharawis, are in a state of profound insecurity. Recently, two young Sahrawis, Ahmed ould Cheikh ould Suïd and Lemgheivri ould Brahim ould Bombari, were killed by live ammunition. Today, the situation is critical: virtually everyone in the camps is armed, creating a climate of violence and fear.

This proliferation of weapons is directly linked to the trafficking of drugs and arms, which is carried out in an uncontrolled manner and endangers the security of the inhabitants of the camps.

We urgently call on the international community to intervene immediately to secure these camps. It is essential to deploy assessment and peacekeeping missions to protect the inhabitants and restore order. The international community must act to provide resources and support to eradicate criminal activities in these camps.

We also call on the Algerian government to take decisive action to put an end to this disastrous situation. As the host country, Algeria has a responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of the Sahrawi refugees on its territory. We urge the Algerian government to intensify the surveillance of its borders and to act firmly to dismantle criminal networks, thus securing the Saharawi camps.

It is crucial to take immediate action to prevent a deterioration of the situation and to ensure a safe and stable future for the Saharawi people living in these camps.
