"De cara al mundo": international analysis on Onda Madrid

"De cara al mundo", the programme on Onda Madrid directed and presented by Javier Fernández Arribas, director of Atalayar, analyses international current affairs every week.
This Sunday, general elections will be held in Turkey, where the economy will dominate the will of the voters. The Turkish economy is in a dangerous situation, largely due to the lack of orthodoxy that has dominated its monetary policy in recent times. President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is seeking another term in office, but polls put the opposition in a strong position to win. The devastating earthquake in February will also have an influence. Aleix Amorós, a geopolitical analyst specialising in Turkey and the Middle East, will offer the keys to this electoral process.
Meanwhile, the Chileans have taken an unexpected turn. The results of the elections in Chile to form a constituent assembly, charged with drafting the new constitution, have been greeted with an almost rare unanimity of surprise and astonishment at the overwhelming triumph of José Antonio Kast's Republican Party, Gabriel Boric's defeated rival in the presidential elections. The RP, alternately described as far-right and Pinochettist, won 35.42% of the vote, which, together with 21.07% for the centre-right Chile Seguro coalition, accounts for 34 of the 51 seats at stake, more than the three-fifths needed to draft the nation's new basic law. The groupings in Unity for Chile, which support the current president Boric, were left with 28.57% and 16 councillors, a figure so insufficient that it does not even reach the two-fifths that would allow the left the right to veto. Miguel Ángel López, a doctor in Political Science specialising in elections at the Institute of International Studies of the University of Chile, will explain the Chilean political turnaround to the programme's microphones.
The war in Ukraine is once again the subject of "De cara al mundo", with EU Foreign Affairs Ministers debating new sanctions against Russia between today and tomorrow, which in this case could affect third countries such as China. Countries are divided over the consequences of a confrontation with Beijing.
On the other hand, a meeting between Pope Francis and Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski is being finalised to discuss the situation. On the military front, the possible delivery of long-range missiles to the Ukrainians has provoked new threats from Moscow against the West. These missiles are key to the announced Ukrainian counteroffensive because they would serve to neutralise Russian command centres in the rear. María Senovilla, special envoy to Ukraine, will give details of the conflict on Ukrainian territory.
As every Friday, the discussion will be led by Atalayar's regular contributors, Claudia Luna, Mexican journalist and writer, and Pedro González, journalist and founder of Euronews, coordinated by Javier Fernández Arribas. They will talk about the war in Ukraine, the elections in Turkey and the political turnaround in Chile.
"De cara al mundo", Friday 12 May from 22:05 to 23:00.
