"De cara al mundo": international analysis on Onda Madrid

De cara al mundo

"De cara al mundo", the programme on Onda Madrid directed and presented by Javier Fernández Arribas, director of Atalayar, analyses international current affairs every week.

This Sunday, the second round of the general elections in Turkey will be held to determine whether the current president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, will renew his mandate once again or whether the opposition will succeed in putting an end to 20 years of Islamist government. The third candidate has announced his support for Erdogan and this could be key. Shortcomings in the electoral process have been denounced by EU observers who are calling for the conditions that disadvantage the opposition to be addressed. In any case, Erdogan's Justice and Development Party has already secured control of parliament in the first round, a fact to be taken into account. Judith Arnal, an economist and expert on Turkey and senior researcher associated with the Elcano Royal Institute, will provide the most relevant details of the Turkish elections.

On the other hand, in the United States there is controversy over the political confrontation in the Republican Party between Ron DeSantis and Donald Trump. DeSantis, governor of Florida, has filed his candidacy to be the Republican Party's candidate for the US presidential elections next year. He is the main challenger to former President Donald Trump, who will put up a tough fight. José María Peredo Pombo, Professor of Communication and International Relations at the Universidad Europea, will explain the details of the situation within the US Republican Party.

Meanwhile, the war in Ukraine continues. The leader of the Wagner Group, Yevgeny Prigozhin, continues to take the lead on the Russian side in Ukraine. After the capture of Bajmut, which cost him the lives of 20,000 of his men, he has admitted the failure of the Russian military campaign in Ukraine and criticised the Russian elite who live in luxury and ostentation while soldiers die on the Ukrainian front and are sent home in zinc coffins. The journalist María Senovilla and Lucas Martín, an expert international analyst, will analyse all the details of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in the microphones of "De cara al mundo".

As every Friday, the talk show will be hosted by Atalayar's regular contributors, Claudia Luna, Mexican journalist and writer, and Pedro González, journalist and founder of Euronews, coordinated by Javier Fernández Arribas. They will discuss the war in Ukraine, the elections in Turkey and the visit to Cuba by the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell.

"De cara al mundo", Friday 26 May from 22:05 to 23:00.
