A new round of negotiations began in Doha with the aim of reaching a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas. But above all, the conflict has escalated following Iran's announced retaliatory strike against Israel for the death of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
Positions are far apart as long as Hamas does not come to the table; contacts are indirect through Egyptian and Qatari negotiators because it demands that negotiations focus on the plan proposed in July by the Biden Administration, a plan rejected by Israel.
On the other hand, the Ukrainians are holding on to the Russian zone of Kursk, even gaining some ground in a surprise military operation that demonstrates Russian weaknesses and aims to ease Russian pressure on several fronts in the Donbass.
Meanwhile, regarding the political crisis in Venezuela, the presidents of Brazil and Colombia have proposed a coalition government while new elections are being prepared in Venezuela. Neither Maduro's Chavismo has accepted it, saying that each country should take care of its own internal affairs, nor the opposition, because Corina Machado claims that the vote has already been cast and that the opposition won the elections... or should we vote and vote until the results are what Maduro wants? The opposition leader challenges the Brazilian and Colombian leaders to repeat the elections in their countries, even though they won.
