‘De cara al mundo’, the Onda Madrid programme directed and presented by Javier Fernández Arribas, director of Atalayar, deals with international news every week.

The leaders of the European Union have approved the accelerated rearmament of the EU despite the opposition of Hungarian President Viktor Orban. The investment package could mobilise up to 800 billion euros, between national and European funds, within a period of four years.

Meanwhile, Russia launches a new attack on Ukraine's energy facilities and delegations from the United States and Ukraine will meet in Saudi Arabia next week. The situation is complicated, the US country will expel 240,000 Ukrainian refugees and Ukrainian soldiers are blind to fight Russian troops.

Journalist and correspondent María Senovilla will offer the most important keys to the conflict in Ukraine in ‘De cara al mundo’.

There are changes in terms of US tariffs on various countries. Donald Trump takes another lurch: he announces a postponement of tariffs on Mexico and Canada. The US president adopts another one-month exemption, until 2 April, which will affect goods from both countries included in the 2020 Free Trade Agreement.

Regarding the conflict in Sudan, the United Nations (UN) Security Council is concerned about the establishment of a parallel government in Sudan. Two million people in the country are suffering from famine or are on the brink of it and more than 220 cases of child rape have been reported since the beginning of 2024. In addition, a charter has been signed to establish a parallel governing authority in Sudan.

Meanwhile, the latest news is that a cholera outbreak has caused dozens of deaths and more than 2,700 hospitalisations in the Sudanese state of White Nile. The increase in cases, most of them with symptoms of severe dehydration, overwhelmed the hospital in Kosti.

Esperanza Santos Suárez, who has been an emergency coordinator in Sudan since June 2024 and has recently returned from the country, will talk about the delicate situation in Sudan.

We will have the expert international analyst Lucas Martín to analyse the most important issues on the international scene.

As on each programme, the discussion will be led by Atalayar's regular contributors, Claudia Luna, Mexican journalist and writer, and Pedro González, journalist and founder of Euronews, coordinated by Javier Fernández Arribas; the discussion will focus on the increase in the EU's defence budget and support for Ukraine, the closeness between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, the tariffs imposed by the United States on various countries and the complicated situation in Sudan.

‘De cara al mundo’, Friday 7 March from 22:05 to 23:00.
