‘De cara al mundo‘: international analysis on Onda Madrid

‘De cara al mundo’, the Onda Madrid programme directed and presented by Javier Fernández Arribas, director of Atalayar, deals with international news every week.
The president of the United States, Donald Trump, has decided to impose new tariffs on all those countries with commercial ties to Washington, practically the whole world.
Trump declares a trade war on the world with a universal tariff of 10% and greater punishments for his main partners
The US president announces the highest import taxes in a century with a 20% surcharge on European Union (EU) products.
The tariff war declared by the US president has shaken international markets, especially in the United States. All are announcing a response and preparing to negotiate with Washington.
The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has called for negotiations, while announcing ‘countermeasures’.
The two economic blocs have the largest trade relationship in the world, which in 2023 amounted to 1.6 trillion euros in goods and services, almost 30% of world trade.
China urges the United States to ‘immediately’ lift the tariffs and announces that it will retaliate. Beijing considers that the new taxes ‘do not conform to international trade rules’ and constitute a practice of ‘unilateral intimidation’.
Diplomat and expert international analyst Gustavo de Arístegui will comment on the impact of these measures.
On the other hand, the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, has assured that the United States ‘will remain’ in the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO), although he has insisted that he expects all the countries of the Atlantic Alliance to significantly increase their military spending, dedicating at least 5% of GDP to it. The announcement was made during an informal meeting of the EU27 defence ministers in Brussels to which Rubio was invited.
Rubio added that Trump ‘was not against NATO’ but against ‘a NATO that did not have the necessary capabilities to fulfil the obligations that the treaty imposes on each and every one of the member states’.
Meanwhile, the war in Ukraine reaches 1,136 days since the start of the Russian invasion this Friday. Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski has denounced the constant attacks that Moscow continues to inflict on his country and has called on the international community to respond to what he considers a provocation towards all countries seeking peace.
Both Russia and Ukraine accuse each other of violating the partial ceasefire established on Tuesday between the United States and Russia, which protects energy infrastructures and navigation in the Black Sea.
Journalist and correspondent María Senovilla will offer the most important keys in ‘De cara al mundo’.
For its part, Israel has intensified its offensive in the Gaza Strip with new attacks that have caused nearly a hundred deaths in the last few hours, especially in the north.
The expert international analyst Lucas Martín will analyse the most relevant issues.
As on each programme, the discussion will be led by Atalayar's regular contributors, Claudia Luna, Mexican journalist and writer, and Pedro González, journalist and founder of Euronews, coordinated by Javier Fernández Arribas; the discussion will focus on the wars in Ukraine and Gaza and on Donald Trump's tariff war.
‘De cara al mundo’, Friday 4th April from 22:05 to 23:00.
