Fatima Bekkar, miembro del Consejo de Dajla, felicita a España por su “posición franca y solidaria sobre el Sáhara”
Fatima Bekkar, member of the Council of Dakhla, congratulated Spain for its political change on the question of Western Sahara. Pedro Sanchez, the Spanish president, sent a letter to King Mohammed VI in which he recognised the Moroccan plan as "the most serious, realistic and credible basis" for resolving the Sahara dispute, Bekkar alludes to the deep historical ties between Spain and Morocco, as well as the friendly relationship between the two peoples.
Fatima Bekkar's statement follows:
Spain and Morocco are strategic allies, countries that are united by deep historical ties. Spain respects Moroccan lands. After the Moroccans entered a peace march launched by King Hassan II towards the southern lands of Morocco, Spain welcomed this peaceful will, recognising that the Sahara was part of Morocco.
And, now, history repeats itself in a message entitled 'A new stage that unites Morocco and Spain'. Spanish president Pedro Sánchez considered Morocco's proposed autonomy initiative for the region as "the most serious, realistic and credible basis" for resolving the dispute.
We can summarise this by saying that the two countries were smart to overcome differences and build an inevitable friendship, as the two countries are in a close position. Also, we have to take into account the friendly relationship between the two peoples, who need harmony in the relations between them. Moreover, this will have positive economic effects in this region. I therefore welcome Spain's frank and supportive position on the Moroccan Sahara, which reinforces the strong strategic partnership between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Kingdom of Spain.
