The French Interior Ministry indicates that the Alawi country has a good pandemic situation and Moroccans will have fewer restrictions when travelling to France

Sources from the French Ministry of the Interior confirm that, as of 16 February, Morocco will be considered a green zone. This means that those countries, framed in this list, are in a favourable situation related to COVID-19 and that, therefore, travellers who want to travel to the Gallic country will have a relaxation in the conditions for entry, as reported by the media Medias24 and Le360.

It should be noted that Morocco was previously classified as an orange zone since October last year and Moroccans had to present many more documents to enter France. Previously, if a person was vaccinated, an official document proving it was valid, but if not, a negative PCR test 72 hours before the flight or a negative antigen test 48 hours before the flight had to be presented. In addition, these non-inoculated persons also had to present a document stating that they had a convincing reason to enter France. Prior to this, Morocco was on the red zone list and entry into Europe was much stricter.

But from now on, as Morocco is a green zone, vaccinated people will have to present the official certificate affirming the presence of the full two-dose regimen, and unvaccinated people will only have to present negative PCR or antigen tests, and no longer have to prove a reason for entering the European country.

The Ministry of the Interior recalls that not all vaccines are valid. To enter French territory, you must be inoculated with Pfizer/BioNTech/Comirnaty, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Vaxzevria, Covishield or Janssen. If inoculated with doses from the Sinopharm regimen, a document certifying the third booster dose with Pfizer or Moderna must be presented.

Thus, Morocco joins a list of European countries in which its citizens will be able to enjoy a relaxation of restrictions, including Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Switzerland and the Vatican. Outside Europe, the only countries in the green zone are Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Honduras, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, Indonesia, Japan, Kuwait, New Zealand, Qatar, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, South Korea, Taiwan and Vanuatu.

On the other hand, the Ministry also reminds that these are the measures to enter France, but when travelling to Morocco, tourists will have to comply with a different set of requirements. To transit through the Alawi country, travellers will have to present a vaccination passport if they have one, a negative result of a PCR test carried out 48 hours before, as well as a health document including the tourist's address and two telephone numbers so that they can be contacted in the event of any coronavirus-related problems.

On arrival in the Kingdom, all tourists must undergo a rapid antigen test, available at specific points at the airport, as well as a random PCR test that can be administered to anyone getting off the plane.

In the event that the test carried out on arrival in Morocco is positive, if the person has an asymptomatic diagnosis or mild symptoms, he/she should self-confine at the hotel or place where he/she is staying until the result is negative, following at all times the national protocol in force imposed by the Kingdom.

On the other hand, it is reminded that children under six years of age are exempt from any restriction, but if they are over this age they will only have to present a negative PCR 48 hours before and the rapid test on arrival in the territory.

The move into the green zone is very good news for the Alawi country. One of the main travel destinations for Moroccans is France, as many of them live there, so a relaxation of the rules is a great relief for them, and vice versa. Now that the borders have been opened in the Kingdom, many French people have already started booking flights and trips to Morocco.
