El rey Mohamed VI de Marruecos es operado con éxito del corazón en Rabat

King Mohammed VI of Morocco underwent heart surgery this Sunday at the clinic of the Royal Palace in Rabat. “The intervention was a complete success" as stated by his medical team and the MAP agency. The intervention performed on the monarch is due to the fact that he has suffered a relapse in his arrhythmia since at least 2018, and consisted of a "complementary radiofrequency ablation" that achieved "a restoration of normal heart rhythm," according to the official note.
In February 2018, Mohamed VI had to undergo the same type of operation at the Ambroise Paré clinic in Paris, when he also underwent radiofrequency ablation after presenting a heart rhythm disorder defined at the time as "atrial flutter". The medical team composed of five doctors - two French and three Moroccan - who signed the statement today said that the monarch again presented an atrial flutter in the healthy heart, so the doctors recommended a "complementary radiofrequency ablation", as happened in 2018.
The relapse of the king, who is 56 years old and has just turned 20 years on the throne, was a surprise, as was the fact that the operation was performed in Rabat, as the monarch has preferred to have his ailments treated in Paris in recent years.
Since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, Mohammed VI has hardly appeared in public, except on rare occasions, conveniently equipped with his mask, but he has not addressed his people with any speech. It is not known how much recovery time the monarch will need, who in 2018 spent fifty days between his operation in Paris and his return to Morocco.
