The José María Martín Carpena Sports Palace will host the opening of the event on 18th March, with the screening of 'Emperor Code'

The "la Caixa" Foundation brings 1,000 people from social groups to the opening gala of the 25th Malaga Film Festival

The opening of the 25th Malaga Festival will take place on 18 March, a very special edition in which, after two years marked by the coronavirus pandemic, the event will recover spaces for meetings and social events. Thus, with the aim of bringing the festival to many who have not been able to enjoy it until now, the opening gala will take place at the Palacio de Deportes José María Martín Carpena.

The gala will have a capacity of around 2,400 people. Of these, one part will be allocated to protocol, another part has gone on sale to the public - so that those who have always wanted to attend and have not been able to due to capacity problems can do so - and a third, and no less important, part will be distributed among social groups and associations thanks to a collaboration agreement with the "la Caixa" Foundation, a partner of the event, which will bring to the gala many who had never thought they could attend the opening of the Malaga Festival.

The presentation of the collaboration of the "la Caixa" Foundation in this event took place in the Salón de los Espejos of Malaga City Hall. The event, presided over by the Mayor of Málaga, Francisco de la Torre, was attended by the Councillor for Culture and Sports of Málaga City Council, Noelia Losada; the regional director of CaixaBank in eastern Andalusia, Juan Ignacio Zafra; and the manager of Málaga Procultura and director of the Málaga Festival, Juan Antonio Vigar.

Thanks to the improvement in the overall health situation in terms of infection figures and the number of people vaccinated compared to the two previous editions, the aim is for this festival to be a celebration of life, both socially, with that distance that used to separate us and is now bringing us together; and that of the festival itself, which celebrates a landmark 25th edition, recovering its hallmarks, with its red carpet and the meeting with the city of Malaga and all its visitors.

The collaboration of the "la Caixa" Foundation in this inaugural gala is part of this objective. A total of 1,000 people belonging to social groups with which the Foundation works will be able to attend both the opening gala and the film that will be screened after it at the José María Martín Carpena Sports Palace itself, 'Emperor Code', by Jorge Coira, which is taking part in the Official Section of the event.
